the life inside textiles*

Rowan Mersh understands the textiles inherent characteristics from the textiles structure and textiles have a new beautiful life in his hands! His fabric sculptures have already been acquired by Victoria and Albert Museum to be part of their permanent collection. I'm fascinating from his stunning work: will Rowan be the next Issey Miyake?

Beads & Pieces*

Beads & Pieces, a Design With Conscience project by Artecnica. Beads & Pieces is a four-piece ceramic collection designed by Hella Jongerius. "Artisans located in the primary coca leaf-growing region of Peru handcraft the collection. With the help of Aid to Artisans, a non-profit organization that provides practical assistance to artisans worldwide, Artecnica offers an alternative economic reality to the people of this dangerous and oppressed area. With its black ceramic embellished with delicate pink beading". I love the design and the concept!

stuart haygarth's unusual chandelliers*

Sometime someone makes beautiful, unusual chandelliers! British designer Stuart Haygarth has made these two chandelliers: Tide chandellier and Spectacle. Tide chandellier is a sphere made with a collection of "man made" debris washed up on a specific stretch of Kent coastline. Spectacle, a chandellier made with 1020 pair of prescription spectacles. See the Stuart Haygarth's site: Stuart's work lies between art and design, it has become one of my favorites!

GRÃO:the new life of end -of-line tiles*

GRÃO by Pedrita is a very interesting system. GRÃO aims to give new life to end-of-line, industrially produced tiles. It recovers discontinued production tiles and uses them as units of decorative cladding panels, destined both for architectural façades and for the refurbishment of other urban structures. The beauty of GRÃO is the different way of see it: when you are close, you can see the design of every tiles; when you are far, you can see the whole image that the tiles form.
For the first life-scale project, a "still life" composition demonstrating the GRÃO system was created and presented at the National Tile Museum in Lisbon from July 18th to October 25th 2007. To seeee!!!
